A Night at the Museum

Northwestern Mutual in Greater Milwaukee hosted “A Night at the Museum” at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Over 400 guests were able to visit the Real Pirates exhibit before it opened to the public in December. The Streets of Old Milwaukee, European Village and the Rainforest Exhibit were filled with 10 interactive food stations where guests could eat, mingle and explore the displays.

One guest of Adam Keller said, “Friday night was an excellent event. The kids loved it and were talking about it all weekend. Nicely put together.”

Real Pirates, a National Geographic exhibition, tells the untold story of The Whydah from slave ship to pirate ship. The exhibit features real treasures from the only authenticated pirate shipwreck in U.S. waters. Thirteen galleries showcase the Whydah's journey from its capture to its sinking, and the recovery of its artifacts.

The Fight Against Childhood Cancer Comes to Milwaukee

Northwestern Mutual-Greater Milwaukee office is a proud participant in Northwestern Mutual’s philanthropic program to accelerate the search for a cure to childhood cancer and to provide support to kids and families facing the daily struggles of this disease.

Partnering with Starlight Children’s Foundation, Northwestern Mutual, in conjunction with the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, donated three Fun Center mobile entertainment units to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in November. Whether hospitalized children are awaiting surgery or sitting restlessly during treatment, Fun Centers help them cope by providing endless hours of fun and distraction.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin will have access to the Northwestern Mutual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Family Travel Fund.  Designed to help relieve some of the financial burden that families often encounter, the Family Travel Fund offers assistance to families who need to travel for childhood cancertreatment at select medical institutions across the country.

Steve Forbes and John Schlifske on
"Econo-ME: Ensuring Your Financial Security in the New Normal”

Northwestern Mutual hosted a speaker series with Steve Forbes, chairman and editor in chief of Forbes Media and John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman and CEO. The three day tour saw over 4,000 attendees in total and included panel discussions in Miami and Palm Beach, FL; Washington, DC; Hartford, CT; Raleigh and Charlotte, NC; and Milwaukee, WI. In Milwaukee, where there were over 500 in attendance, Steve and John discussed their thoughts on the economy, the markets, and how individuals and business owners can ensure financial security in the new normal. Key insights presented at the events were:

  • Managing risk is the cornerstone of financial security for individuals and families in today’s economy. According to Schlifske, a foundation of risk management is the key to protecting yourself and those you care about against the financial challenges that occur when people live too long, die too soon or become sick or injured.
  • Unforeseen threats will continue to affect our national economy. Natural disasters such as the earthquake in Japan or unrest in the Middle East impact today’s consumers. However, Schlifske and Forbes agree that our nation’s economy will continue to overcome these obstacles in the long-term based on our markets and infrastructure.
  • The fundamentals of financial security to build wealth include long-term savings. Forbes recommends that consumers stick with the basics such as putting money away week after week and working with a trusted advisor on a holistic plan.

2012 Million Dollar Round Table Qualifiers

In 1927, 32 extraordinary life insurance producers, each of whom had sold at least $1 million of life insurance, dreamed of a forum dedicated to fostering a high-standard, professional approach to life insurance sales and service. Founded on the belief that growth is a result of exchanging ideas, the concept was: "To receive, individuals must give."

Out of this dream emerged MDRT – an international, independent association that represents the world's best sales professionals in the life insurance-based, financial services industry.

MDRT, a positive influence in the life insurance industry, has developed a rich tradition of sharing knowledge for the benefit of clients, prospects, producers and companies.

Today, the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), The Premier Association of Financial Professionals, is an international, independent association of more than 31,500 members, or less than 1 percent, of the world's life insurance and financial services professionals from 464 companies in more than 80 nations and territories. MDRT members demonstrate exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client service. MDRT membership is recognized internationally as the standard of sales excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.

In 2012, Northwestern Mutual of Greater Milwaukee had 22 Financial Representatives qualify for this prestigious honor:  Lane Barkstrom, Allen Beranek, William Boyle, Christopher Carlson, Christopher Fugman, Steven Gardiner, John Glowacki, James Grogan, Patrick Kohler, Steven Koppel, Ronald Krizek, Daniel Madigan, Scott Mila, Sherri Mitchell, James Papageorge, Melissa Petersen, Mark Schmiedel, Richard Schumaker, Scott Schwertfeger, Victor Torres, and Chuck Wierschem.
