A Look Back at History
The historic Network Office was established February 5, 1885. After decades of continued growth and recruitment of talented Financial Representatives, the 1930’s and early 1940’s saw this Network Office grow to become the 9th largest in the company. As the 1950’s approached, the Home Office realized how large this office had become and, for the first time in company history, saw the need to split a Network Office. Even after the split, the office continued to flourish, and in 1976 it was ranked the #1 Network Office in the Northwestern Mutual Network. The Lives and New Clients focus, the Specialist System and the strong College Internship Program that were developed in the 1990’s contributed to its continued growth and remain an integral part of our culture today.

 
The Appointment of Steve H. Holter to Managing Partner
In October of 2007, Steve Holter was appointed Managing Partner of the Network Office. With this appointment Steve brings dedication, a history of accomplishment and strong management experience to the position. As Managing Partner of Northwestern Mutual's greater Milwaukee Network Office, Steve is responsible for sales and service operations in the area. Housed in the company’s home city of Milwaukee, his office consists of experienced Financial Representatives offering a wide range of financial services. As the ninth Managing Partner in the office’s history, Steve and his staff will maintain the standard of excellence and quality service that policyholders have come to expect from the company.
 
Steve is extremely honored to be a part of this historic Network Office. “It makes me proud to be associated with this prestigious organization. I take pride in introducing this organization to new clients and new Financial Representatives. Everyone before me has done such a great job. Because of the history, I am eager to help everyone grow to get to a whole new level. That means making a significant impact on the company.”
 
Steve H. Holter – The Northwestern Mutual Experience
Before coming to Northwestern Mutual, Steve worked as an accountant for 4 years. “I was bored. I didn’t feel like I was growing, and I wasn’t satisfied,” says Steve. “Thankfully, I was introduced to the Northwestern Mutual by Gregg S. Neiman, a Financial Representative for The McTigue Financial Group. I knew this career existed and how awesome it was, but I had never considered it before. I came in open minded, and after exploring the opportunity, I found it to be a perfect fit.”
 
Steve adds: “I then realized, down the road, that I also really enjoy developing people…personally, professionally and financially.” In 1995, Steve was appointed Managing Director in Northbrook, Illinois. “I relished the challenge of developing future leaders. It felt much like a parent feels as they raise children. You see them grow and feel a sense of pride.” 
 
Now that Steve has made the transition to Managing Partner here in Milwaukee, he understands that his development role is more important than ever. “As the organization becomes larger, we need layers and layers of additional leaders. I am excited about developing future College Unit Directors, Field Directors, Managing Directors and even Managing Partners to keep our tradition strong.”
